In this wild west era of no contribution limits, all it takes is one big check to erase a fundraising disadvantage and Republican attorney general candidate Michael Gibbons received that check this week, $1.1 million from the Republican State Leadership Commitee PAC, Arlington, Va.
With that stunner, Gibbons erased Democratic opponent Chris Koster's half million dollar fundraising lead and went ahead by approximately the same amount.
The contribution came one day after Gibbons reported $95,000 in contributions, including $25,000 from one of billionaire educational voucher supporter Rex Sinquefield's political action committees. The $95,000 was the first 48-hour report filed by the Gibbons campaign with the Missouri Ethics Commission in nearly two weeks.
Gibbons now has $1,492,650 in oversized contributions, while Koster has collected $916,000.
