Chart editorial rips MSSU Board of Governors

Missouri Southern State University's feisty newspaper, The Chart, ripped into the Board of Governors in a take-no-prisoners editorial in its most recent edition. Board of Bumblers is about the kindest comment the panel received:

And then there's the ego of the Board. Dwight Douglas scolded the Faculty Senate representative last month for not being "positive."

Afterwards, Douglas was asked if he thought the faculty was at all justified in being unhappy with the situation.

"In my opinion, no," he said.

What message is this Board sending - to the campus community, to other institutions and to lawmakers in Jefferson City?

This administration stomps on toes then goes into hiding, cuts and eliminates programs that the campus begs them to save, is raising millions of dollars to lease property and partner with a private school.

Douglas has ruined our college. First, he hired a total incompetent as president, then he instructs him to "fake" a financial crisis, and the bumbling president goes out and talks of bankruptcy. He is so inept that it didn't take long for everybody to realize that there was not a financial crisis at all, just a clever use of depreciation by the school accountants to fake the crisis. But the bumblers pushed ahead and asked Bumbler #1 to cut $500000 anyway (and to do it in such a way that the international programs could be eliminated.)
Next, after the vote of no confidence, Shorty and Bumbler #1 decided to paint our faculty as lazy tourists in order to save Bumbler #1's job.
Next, Douglas pursues a Medical School with a school whose board had no idea this was in the works. But Freeman needs a medical school so Douglas in intent on getting it for his employer. So, next, even though it appears the KC school board has no intention of spending millions in Joplin, he(Douglas) goes out and forces the Foundation to borrow a quarter of a million to hire an architect and plan a 10 million building so we can be landlords. And now he criticizes us for being negative.
How long can this go on? For heaven's sake what is wrong with the rest of the board?.
Keep it up, Chart. Keep the pressure on these b......

The faculty senate should consider a vote of no confidence on the board of governors as well.

Where in the world is the coverage on this fiasco? Why is the national media not paying attention? I would think this obvious misuse of public funds would attract the attention of the news media AND the state's attorney general. Criminal conduct has obviously occurred. It is time these people were arrested and hauled off to the pokey. I, for one, would absolutely love to see Douglas and Speck fry. And, after they go, I would also love to see some administrators bite the dust, along with some incompetent department heads in Arts and Sciences who really should be sent packing, tenure or no.

5:48. Can you substantiate any of your allegations? It's easy to speak of obvious criminal conduct and misuse of public funds, but I'm from Missouri -- SHOW ME your proof. Where is the criminal conduct? How were public funds misused (it's my understanding that only private funds have been used to initiate planning for the med school, no public funds. If you have different info, please cite it plus source.)

Ah, Dwight! You surface! I'm not just talking about the funds for the medical school. I'm talking about misappropriation of funds in other areas, and you know exactly what I mean. I'm not going to expose you here. Do that yourself. I'm curious why the media is not checking out the entire MSSU budget, and examining it for shenanigans since Leon left. First, you had Terri to do your bidding, and probably found out she was less than compliant in your behalf. Then you couldn't wait to hire a toadie who would do all the dirty work you planned, because his career was over, anyway. He came here to be your hatchet guy and compliant servant, so the treasury will be raided. By 2011, you will have achieved both your aims and your tidy little nest egg as payback from Freeman, and off you go! I almost feel sorry for Bruce, because he is like a man without a country. When this is all over, he will be richer, but poorer still. And unlike you, he does have feelings and integrity. But he has let the powerful to lead him around by the nose all his academic life, and has few, real friends.

The silence from the powers that be speaks volumes, doesn't it?
