Public defender assigned for Salazar, objects to cameras in the courtroom

Public deender Maleia Cheney has been assigned to defend Eddie Salazar Sr. , who is charged with making a false statement to to the police about an alleged kidnapping of his eight-month-old son, Eddie Salazar Jr., The infant's body was found Saturday in Spring River.

Ms. Cheney's first motion was to remove cameras from the courtroom. Judge Richard Copeland has granted permission for a pool television camera and the Joplin Globe to shoot Salazar's arraignment, which is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Thursday in Jasper County Circuit Court.

Defense attorneys do not help their cause when they make mountains out of mole hills and blow smoke under the pretense of protecting their client's "rights." Such antics merely slows down the judicial system. The public is not stupid.

Copeland is the judge? Let's hope that alcohol was not a contributing factor in anyway to this or the scumbag will walk.
