The attorneys for Branson-based Kanakuk Ministries and its president, Joe White, filed a motion of dismissal or change of venue today in the lawsuit filed by Texas parents whose boy was sexually assaulted by former Kanakuk Kamp director Pete Newman.
Newman is currently serving two life sentences plus 30 years for sex crimes involving numerous underage boys.
The lawsuit was filed in U. S. District Court for the Northern District of Texas. The Kanakuk attorneys claim all of the crimes took place in Missouri, while the attorneys for the plaintiffs say White convinced them to send the boy to Kanakuk Kamp when White appeared at a Promise Keepers rally and Newman called the boy at home.
If the suit is not dismissed, the motion says it should be transferred to the Western District of Missouri.
The motion was filed in response to an amended petition filed in April..
