McCaskill stresses importance of post offices to rural communities

Claire,

I remember when Ozark County had 21post offices and the attempt to close them caused people to talk about the same stuff.

Look, post offices are not intended to be the social center of a community. They are to cost effectively provide postal services. First class delivery, the money maker, has already gone South. Soon, all federal benefits will be paid electronically. Good!

The USPS shut down several post offices in Ozark County and were able to consolidate routes to save money. Needs to happen again.

Build a shed and install rows of postal lock boxes. Let the carrier for that area stop by and load the mail in the boxes. If folks want to socialize, let them figure out when to meet at the postal box location.

Cut daily delivery to four days a week. Getting rid of Saturday delivery alone will take 400,000 vehicles off of the roads.

Claire, I'm getting a headache. Must I doo all of the thinking for you?
