Republican Party chief: Mel Hancock will be greatly missed
(From the Missouri Republican Party)
David Cole, Chairman of the Missouri Republican Party, released the following statement on the passing of former Congressman Mel Hancock:
“We are deeply saddened by the passing of former Congressman Mel Hancock.
“Throughout his life, Mel was a tireless advocate for lower taxes and smaller government. He will be remembered most for the passage of the Hancock Amendment in 1980, years before he was ever elected to public office. Mel’s efforts as a private citizen put Missouri at the forefront of the populist revolt against excessive government spending.
“There is a quote often attributed to Thomas Jefferson: ‘One man with courage is a majority.’ Mel’s life is a testament to the truth of this saying and proof that ordinary citizens can have a significant and lasting impact on their state and their nation. Mel was an inspiration to many—and he will be greatly missed.”
