Neosho children removed by state, mother faces felony charge

Three boys, ages 7, 5 and 1 were removed from a Neosho trailer after a Newton County Sheriff's Office investigation found feces in every room, moldy and expired food, crawling cockroaches and numerous animals.

The children's mother, Ashlea Marie Shaffer (DOB 1997) has been charged with endangering the welfare of a child.

The conditions of the trailer during the August inspection were detailed in the probable cause statement:

Every room of the three-bedroom trailer was covered in feces, dirt, insects, cockroaches, and sounds of rodents running in the back rooms. There were cats, kittens, and dogs running amuck.

The back bedrooms were unlivable, and had household items thrown around, making it difficult to open doorways and even walk into the rooms.

The back bedroom had a bunny cage, which had contained a dead bunny inside of it for an extended period of time, until Vl took it upon himself to bury it in the backyard.

Inside the refrigerator, Tackett observed bare shelves, molded food, and expired food. With neglect of hygiene, food and minimal standard care for the children. Tackett believed children were in an immediate danger of care and neglect while in custody of their mother Ashlea Marie Shaffer. All children were taken into state custody. Photos were taken of the residence along with bodycam worn video.

My Thoughts and Prayers go out to those 3-Children. Hopefully they receive love and much better treatment going forward.

What a terrible situation that these 3-Young Children were living in. Where were the Children's Fathers or the Grandparents - No one should have to live in that filth and squalor.

Did the Mother have No self-respect for herself or a drinking or drug, problem or was she just plain lazy? I have known several lower-income individuals and families, that did not have a lot, but their children were well kept, and had food in the refrigerator, and their residence was not a pig stye - so I find this woman's lifestyle and treatment of those children atrocious.

So where is this story does it say she has a low income? You're making an assumption. Seems like you think that a big part of low income people live in these kind of conditions.
There can be several factors into why this person is living like this.

I am one of the grandmas. I can tell you this mom has been hotlined well over 4x. By teachers, myself. I have no clue who did it this time. I am assuming a teacher since it was the first day of school. The system sucks! As for my son. I am not an enabling parent. He needs to get his shit together as well.

1:17PM - Who Cares Who Hot-lined Her! Those Kids Do Not Deserve to be living in all that Filth. That does not answer the question-Why doesn't she Pick-Up and Clean-Up, there is NO EXCUSE - for allowing those kids to live like that.

Why haven't you or the other Grandparents - Gone to Court to take the Kids instead of allowing them to Suffer? WHY - That is the Magic Question!!!

Idk the other grandma the one commenting but the one i personally know definitely isn’t fit to raise kids (and yes I know her personally). But the grandma that hotlined and tried to get these babies help I do not know and can’t speak for them. Bug I do agree if am of this is true than these children are definitely being failed.

Who says I haven’t? 2 weeks after this happened DFS put them back in the care of Ashlea. You can’t just go in and take someone’s children!! That’s called kidnapping!! I have hotlined her as a grandparent to the point where she will not even let me see them.
