MODOT issues afternoon, evening travel advisory

(From the Missouri Department of Transportation)

Weather: Light snow, sleet and freezing rain continues to fall across southwest Missouri. The winter precipitation is forecasted to dwindle to freezing drizzle during the overnight hours. Temperatures are expected to hover around freezing for the rest of the afternoon and through the overnight hours.

Road conditions: Major roads like I-44, Route 71, Route 65 and Route 60 range from covered to partly covered to mostly clear. Isolated bands of snow and sleet have created road conditions to vary throughout the day.

All major roads are being plowed and treated with snow-removing chemicals.

Lesser-traveled roadways continue to be mostly covered to covered in many locations. These roadways are being plowed at least once or twice during the day and salt and abrasives are being put down on hills, curves and intersections.

MoDOT's Plan: MoDOT crews will remain on duty through the afternoon and into the overnight hours treating and plowing roadways as necessary. Plows will remain on the road until all major roads are clear to mostly clear. The MoDOT Emergency Operations Center remains open with staff answering road condition phone calls and posting road conditions to MoDOT's Traveler Information Map at modot.org.
