T. R. Hanrahan, whose time advising the Chart at Missouri Southern State University is being missed by just about everyone except Bruce Speck, is back in academics once more.
Missouri Western State University in St. Joseph has hired Hanrahan for a one-year position.
Hanrahan won the Missouri College Media Adviser of the Year in 2010 and his reporters cleaned up on statewide and even national honors for their fearless coverage of problems at the university. That made Hanrahan a target of the Speck administration.
In similar situations, the local newspaper took a stance in favor of freedom of the press. In this situation, the publisher of the Joplin Globe advised Speck on how to more skillfully manipulate news coverage.
