Billy Long: Trump made right choice rolling back Obama Clean Power Plan

(From Seventh District Congressman Billy Long)

Congressman Billy Long (MO-07) released the following statement after the Trump Administration announced their proposal to repeal the Clean Power Plan.

“I believe in an all-of-the-above energy approach but not at the expense of hardworking Americans,” said Rep. Long. “Today, President Trump made the right choice by rolling back the Obama-era Clean Power Plan. This is the right move for our economy; it will save consumers $33 billion by 2030. I'm proud to stand with the president in doing away with regulations that unnecessarily burden businesses.”

Great, Harvey is on board. Now we just need the rest of the civilized world to join SW Mo in asking to be provided with filthy air.

Anonymous 8:11,
You enjoy throwing $33 billion down the drain, and having your fellow countrymen unemployed?

You must be independently wealthy; so I presume you can pay off the $33 billion personally?

One of many of our republican jokes for the citizens to get on board with. Dirty air is good and may we please have another drill sergeant. Our state relies on clean air, water and soil and we receive a lot of money from tourism and it will be rapidly dwindling due to contaminated water, worse than it is, and recreation going elsewhere. Stupid plan boys and go back to Vegas for another long holiday.

So let us get this straight. Cost is 33 billion. US has 330 million people. 10 savings amount to $1 per person per year. Sounds like a really great investment to save breathing problems in all citizens, birth defects from mercury poison in our water which cannot or is not removed by standard methods and all the other ills coming from increased use of fossil fuels to transport the filthy stuff, poisoning of streams and destruction of mountains in the country and destruction of public property(think national monuments, parks and native lands). Fellow countrymen would not be unemployed if they got off their dumb asses and learned a new clean trade such as building renewable energy sources and structures. Empire State building spent about 10 million just renovating their windows and payback was 2 years. Grow up and support clean long lasting jobs Harv.

Good points 1:44 p.m.! Rep. Long touts that repealing the Clean Power Plan will save $33 billion by 2030. What Long doesn't say is that estimates are the Clean Power Plan would result in ANNUAL health benefits of between $14 and $34 billion. It has also been calculated that the Clean Power Plan would prevent 90,000 childhood asthma attacks, 300,000 missed work and school days and 3,600 premature deaths ANNUALLY by 2030. Guess those premature deaths, sick kids and missed work due to breathing and health issues are not considered important by our current President as he can visit Mar-a-logo and breath the sea air while he golfs. What Long and Trump also don't seem to understand is power companies are moving away from coal. The war on coal is over and coal lost. Power companies know that Trump won't be there forever and they are looking to the future and how to produce clean energy that the public demands. This "repeal" is just a photo op for those who have drunk the Trump Kool-Aid.
