They could suggest wearing a mask to protect yourself and others but Governor 'there is no longer a need for a state of emergency' Parson would have his panties all in a twist.

"We all now know how to best fight and prevent serious illness from this virus."

Even if most aren't doing much if any of it.

The governor is just doing what the law and just as important his constituents demand. There's long been a principle in militaries that applies here: do not make orders you know will be disobeyed, all that does is undermine your own authority.

While surgical grade or less masks are by no means a panacea, do not protect those wearing them like properly worn N95 masks which are now easily available from trustworthy companies like 3M, they do provide a useful reduction in the ability of the infected to infect others.

The vast majority of Team Red state to which I sadly belong since I was born and raised here have revealed themselves to be sociopaths, they just don't give a damn about who the infect. Nor do they care about how vaccines also reduce their ability to spread COVID, they are not willing to take the risk to themselves they perceive for that purpose, let alone the much better risk profile of vaccines compared to an infection, although there are more than a few literal deathbed reversals.

However by now most should have natural immunity which is about as good as a couple of doses of a good vaccine. Thus they should at some point get a booster dose, although another infection from say Omicron will do as well, but probably with a worse risk profile.
