South Middle School teacher receives Outstanding Educator of Gifted Award

(From Joplin Schools)

Congratulations to Joplin South Middle School's own Dr. Heather Van Otterloo for earning the 2024 Outstanding Educator of Gifted Award from the Gifted Association of Missouri!

Dr. Van Otterloo was recognized earlier today at the Gifted Association of Missouri's annual conference at the University of Missouri in Columbia and has been presented with the Delma Johnson Outstanding Educator of Gifted Award for her exceptional efforts to provide top-notch opportunities for Joplin's gifted students.

Dr. Van Otterloo says receiving this award is a profound honor.

"As a former gifted student, I understand firsthand the transformative power of gifted education. This award reinforces my commitment to advocate for and nurture the unique potential in every gifted learner.

"My goal is to meet students where they are and inspire them to achieve their fullest potential. By helping them pursue their passions, I aim to engage them in meaningful learning experiences. This approach fosters a love for learning and empowers gifted students to explore and excel in their interests."

Congratulation to Dr. Heather Van Otterloo. Teachers are Unsung Heroes - who are under respected and under compensated.

If you have the opportunity to help out your Child's Class by Volunteering or seeing if there are things you can donate or purchase if the Teacher has an Amazon Wish List - Please take the time to do so.

Remember that Teachers spend / invest a minimum of 5-6 Hours a Day and 5-Days a week with your children for 12-13 Years - it is important that as a Parent / Grandparent - You are there to Support them too.
