A warrant was issued today for the arrest of a Joplin woman who allegedly set fire to a cart belonging to a man she claims gave her a sexually transmitted disease.
Bond was set at $10,000, cash or surety for Jamie Lanette Hoffman (DOB 1986), who was charged with second-degree arson, a felony.
From the probable cause statement:
On 1/26/2025 the Joplin Police Department responded to an address in Joplin, Jasper County, Missouri regarding a structure fire.Upon arrival, officers located a large garden cart fully engulfed in flames, reaching the ridge line of the residence that sat 5 feet from the structure. The siding of the residence had begun to melt and the grass fire surrounding the primary fire was spreading toward a neighboring residence.
Ofc. Box was able to contact V1, who resided at the home. V1 stated Hoffman came to his house accusing him of giving her an STD.
V1 stated he left the residence approximately 10 to 15 minutes prior to the fire being reported. When V1 left, Hoffman was in the front yard. Ofc. Box spoke with W1, who stated Hoffman contacted her telling her she was going to V1’s residence.
W1 spoke with Hoffman a second time on the phone, and Hoffman stated that she set V1’s cart on fire. I contacted Hoffman on 1/27/2025. Hoffman said she flicked a cigarette into V1’s yard, then drove by later and saw the cart on fire.
Hoffman consented to a search of her phone. During the search, I located a message in which Hoffman told another female that she set V1’s things on fire. W2 provided a statement that she was with Hoffman when the fire started.
W2 said that Hoffman said she wanted to burn V1’s items. W2 said that she didn’t see Hoffman light the fire, but Hoffman made W2 look at the house while they were walking away and asked her if she saw anything as they were walking away.
When W2 told Hoffman the house was on fire, Hoffman said, “Good, I’m glad.”
The case was investigated by the Joplin Police Department.
