A three-ring binder filled with child pornography and numerous guns were found in law enforcement's search of the home of murder suspect Craig Michael Wood, according to search warrant affidavits filed today in Greene County Circuit Court.
Wood, 45, Springfield, is charged with first degree murder, kidnapping, and armed criminal action in connection to the February 18 shooting death of 10-year-old Hailey Owens.
The following probable cause information was included in the search warrant, which was submitted by Chris Barb of the Springfield Police Department:
On 2/18.2014, at 1648 hours, Springfield Police officers were dispatched to the 3200 block of west Lombard concerning a report of a female child that had been abducted while she was walking down the street. The 911 caller reported a male in a tan or gold colored Ford Ranger grabbed a ten to 12-year-old girl, pulled her into the truck and drove away. The 911 caller provided a license plate of 1YF454 for the Ford Ranger.

Greene County Prosecutor: I am committed to seeking justice for Hailey

Greene County Prosecuting Attorney Dan Patterson announces that Craig Michael Wood, 45, of Ash Grove, Missouri, has been charged today with murder in the first degree, armed criminal action, and child kidnapping.
These charges are from events that occurred yesterday, February, 18, 2014. Murder in the first degree is an A felony and is punishable by death or life imprisonment without the possibility of parole. Armed criminal action is an unclassified felony and is punishable by a minimum of ten years imprisonment to life.
Mr. Patterson expresses his condolences to Hailey Smith's family and is firmly committed to seeking justice for Hailey.
Mr. Patterson cautions that the charges contained in the felony complaint are merely allegations and that the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty in court.
The Missouri Supreme Court ethics rules prohibit comments on the facts or investigation of this case beyond those contained in the felony complaint and probable cause statement that are part of the public record.
This case is being prosecuted by Chief Assistant Prosecuting Attorney T. Myers. It is being investigated by the Springfield Police Department and Detective Neil McAmis is the lead investigator assigned to the case.
