While railing against stimulus, Bond was pushing for pork

I guess it is just the way Washington works.

Today's Washington Times has a story on how Sen. Kit Bond, R-Mo., publicly lambasted the stimulus package, but privately was pushing for the pork:

Sen. Christopher S. Bond regularly railed against President Obama's economic stimulus plan as irresponsible spending that would drive up the national debt. But behind the scenes, the Missouri Republican quietly sought more than $50 million from a federal agency for two projects in his state.

Mr. Bond was not alone. More than a dozen Republican lawmakers, while denouncing the stimulus to the media and their constituents, privately sent letters to just one of the federal government's many agencies seeking stimulus money for home-state pork projects.

Kit Bond is the king of pork. Doubt that assertion? Drive down Main Street Joplin. Who paid for those sidewalks and streetlights? Hint: it wasn't Joplin taxpayers or property owners. It was the federal government. Keep driving north and you'll find the Bond-Blunt Memorial Joplin Regional Airport Terminal. Do they have any flights there anymore?

How can you say it "wasn't" Joplin taxpayers or property owners? Do you think they didn't pay their fair shair of federal taxes?

According to the Tax Foundation, Missouri is not a "donor state." Missouri receives more than $1.25 for every dollar that it sends to Washington.

So, to answer your question, Missourians pay their fair share and get back it and more. Somewhere taxpayers are paying more than their fair share so Joplin can enjoy airline service! I'm assuming you opposed the "Bridge to Nowhere." How can you support the "Airline to Nowhere?"

Here's a better question: Why should decisions about Joplin streetlights and sidewalks even involve the federal government?
