Pay freeze ends at News-Leader, Gannett newspapers

Gannett announced Monday it is dropping the pay freeze at its newspapers, including the Springfield News-Leader:

"Going forward, we will get back into the normal review cycle where people will be eligible for raises based, as always, on performance and contributions to the overall organization," (Publishing Division Chairman Bob Dickey added.

The freeze was imposed April 1, 2009.

"Raise" is a relative term. They might give us an extra nickel and, technically, we will have gotten a raise. But they'll have to give us a heckuva "raise" in order to make up for the money we lost by being furloughed last year with no pay. Meanwhile, the guys at the top pay themselves millions and millions...
