Tornado-affected citizens can call for volunteer assistance

(From the City of Joplin)

Over 67,700 volunteers have provided 331,000 plus hours of debris removal assistance to residents during the tornado recovery work, and their efforts are continuing. Many volunteers are still in the area and able to provide other types of assistance to residents in the tornado-affected area.

Residents needing assistance are encouraged to call the

Home Owners Assistance Hotline at 417-625-3558.

“Many properties have been cleared, and residents may want or need assistance with other projects. The volunteers can fill that need,” said City Manager Mark Rohr. “Projects may include general projects, such as repairing a fence or general yard work and maintenance type projects. Residents can call the Hotline and request help from the volunteers who are providing their service to clean up Joplin and keep us moving forward. This is a beneficial service that many of our citizens may not be aware of, so the City wanted to remind our residents of its availability.”

In addition to this hotline number, the City reminds everyone of other numbers they can call for other areas.

For those wishing to volunteer in these efforts, whether as an individual or a group, should call the

Volunteer Hotline at 417-625-3543.

In addition, people who want to make a donation (goods or materials) should call the

Donations Hotline at 855-624-4261 or 417-625-3542
