Jane Cunningham: SB 54 would not have kept teachers and students from being Facebook Friends

Either Sen. Jane Cunningham, R-Chesterfield, does not understand how Facebook works or she is playing fast and loose with the truth.

An article in Springfield Glendale High School's newspaper quotes Sen. Cunningham as saying her bill would not have prevented teachers and students from being Facebook friends:

“Bill 54 did not stop any means of communication between an educator and a student. I think there was a lot of mis-information on the law and mis-interpretation of the law. It even allowed Facebook friends, which some people thought it did not. So I don’t think it went against free speech rights. The only thing it prohibited was hidden communication between a school employee and a student or a minor,” Senator Jane Cunningham said.

And this is the woman MNEA and MSTA felt comfortable working with to create a "fix" to the bill?

Sen. Jane Cunningham, R-Chesterfield, does not understand how the General Assembly works where she regularly plays fast and loose with the truth.

Understanding Facebook is minor compared to the above problem.
