(From Seventh District Congressman Eric Burlison)On Wednesday, the House passed the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) America Act, legislation that would strengthen election integrity by ensuring only U.S. citizens are eligible to vote in federal elections. The bill would require documentary proof of U.S. citizenship when registering to vote and require voters to present photo identification when casting a ballot in federal elections.
The 213 Democrats who voted against the measure did so only after using photo identification to cast their votes on the House floor.
The House has acted, and it is now time for the Senate to take up this commonsense legislation and pass it.
