Broadcasting magazine: Nexstar was the big winner

Radio and Television Business Report, a trade magazine of the broadcasting industry, categorized this week's Federal Communications Commission decision against Cable One as a major victory for Nexstar. According to the report, which was headlined "FCC smacks down Cable One in Nexstar dispute:"
"The battle between television group Nexstar and cable operators over carriage terms has made it to the halls of the FCC - - and the winner is Nexstar. Cable One's Joplin system failed to agree to carriage terms with Nexstar's NBC KSNF-TV, and pulled in a station from Tulsa - - egregiously enough that it resulted in a 20K fine, almost triple the amount usually assessed for a similar violation."

Interesting take from you Randy on the situation from a Broadcasting publication.
Your assertion is that Nexstar is the "big winner" because the cable company "lost" $20 Grand.
A Broadcasting Magazine can slant it any way it wants...Here's what matters: Nexstar's stock...52 week high $9.56...currently selling at $4.36. Would you be happy to hold shares in this outfit? Look at the big picture?...who's the winner?

That wasn't my take on the situation. I am inclined to agree with you; I was merely pointing out that the trade magazine for the broadcasting industry was handling the story of the FCC decision.

To bad the reporter from Radio & Television Business Report could not get the facts correct on this story. The fine had nothing to do with the Joplin cable system.

To my knowledge Cable One "pulled in" nothing. The Tulsa channel has always been there. I believe that Nexstar wanted Cable One to drop certain programming or pay for the broadcasting of free airwaves. In my opinion, FCC's ruling and fine were very unfair. Nexstar seems to have a way of twisting facts to suit their needs, don't they?

Now for the truth. The Tulsa stations have been on Miami's cable for as long as KSNF and people in Miami live in Oklahoma not Missouri and prefer the stations from Tulsa to the Joplin stations 4 to 1. Nexstar just proved it's bully mentality once again. Nexstar has shown again why their stock has dropped to below $5.00 a share. Hey if it gets much lower we can all buy them out and fire the idiots who are in charge now.

The truth. The people at Cable One don't know what truth means. The "truth" is that KSNF had a valid request for network protection in Miami for nearly 15 years. Cable One lied to the station all of those years, and covered it by telling lies to Nielsen for several more. Then, they lied by telling KSNF they would begin providing protection in May, only to take the law into their own hands. Say what you want about the stock and the idiots, at least we don't lie, cheat and steal.

I don't know anyone evolved in this whole mess, but I commend Mr. Lammers stepping out of the shadows and posting and for using his name to do so. Its nice to see someone not just sit around and take the one sided tongue lashings that are dolled out on this site. Mr. Turner is obviously biased about this situation, although I really can't see why. There are clearly two sides to this story. Cable One is not as innocent in all matters as Mr. Turner would like to think. Clearly, Mr. Lammers has proof to back that up. The people will decide who they want to stand behind in all area's that are affected by the Cable battle....they'll either keep their cable, or they will switch to satellite to get their local stations...OR the cable company's will pay for retransmission rights. The way I see it Mr. Turner is that your blog is free to the public...right? Well how would you like it if you read what you wrote in a news paper or if it was read on the news ect. You would expect credit for it,(even though it's "free") or most likely payment for your investigative services. It wouldn't be right for them to do that, you did the work, you wrote the story, you should be compensated. Same with the Cable/KODE/KSN issue, they are doing work to put together a local station for us, they deserve to be paid for it.

How classic is it for someone to commend Duane Lammers for "coming out of the shadows" and then post anonymously?

Ha! What a Crock.
Nexstar doesn't Lie, Cheat or Steal? SURE! I just have to roll my eyes on that comment.
Mr Lammars,
YOU got that proof that the anonymous who was defending you, (but was afraid to say who they are) says you have? I'd like to see that "clearly" proof that was NOT present in your comments, it seems not so clear to me. Did I miss something?

As Mr. Turner can assert, I have provided a copy of the FCC ruling that issued the fine. We provided the documentation to the FCC, which is what led to the findings, and the fine.

Duane

PS: I don't need any help in defending my honor.

Why is it Nexstar and KSN/KODE have so much press about cable carriage while you hear nothing from FOX14 or KOAM. I can't believe that Nexstar and their stations find all this banter good for their business unless they believe in the old saying, "I don't care what they say about me as long as they spell my name right." Are the other stations flying under the radar? Do they not have to deal with Cable Carriage? I know FOX14 and KOAM are very popular in the area, why no news on or about them?

I did run some information a while back when KOAM and Fox 14 reached an agreement with Cable One. I have not heard anything about the two stations' dealings with Cox. If anyone has any information, please let me know.

We now have indisputable proof that Nexstar has weapons of mass destruction and, in the interest of self defense, we demand that they give them up or face the consequences.
