News-Leader offers 'thorn' to newly-elected senator

I heartily agree with the Springfield News-Leader editorial board's decision to issue one of its thorns in its weekly "roses and thorns" column to newly-elected State Senator Jack Goodman, R-Mount Vernon.
Goodman's barrage of negative ads during the last several days of his campaign to succeed the late Larry Gene Taylor, was sickening, and as the newspaper pointed out, unnecessary.
The News-Leader editorial writer said:

A THORN: To Rep. Jack Goodman, who needlessly went negative in his campaign for a vacant state Senate seat. Goodman, R-Mount Vernon, took two-thirds of the votes in Tuesday's election, as all observers expected. There was no need to smear his 71-year-old opponent, whose best showing was 40.8 percent in McDonald County. It's this style of politics that alienates citizens and turns them into nonvoters.

Crush opponents, show no mercy. It appears to be their idea of the normal way of conducting politics.

Catherine Hanaway bellowing "what part of no does the governor not understand" in a microphone...

Jetton shouting down then-Governor Holden (not that I liked Holden, but it was disrespectful, childish, and for a politician of any party, strictly 3rd world caliber behavior)...

What's even sadder is how many Missourians support and reward their behavior.

Randy - I think you need to add a donkey at the top of your blog....truth in advertising.

Don't feel sorry for Mr. O'Neil...he has sucked his share from the public trough...maybe he needs to get a real job....I'm glad people worked and contributed to ending his years of sucking from the taxpayers.

P. S. - don't forget that donkey. He would be right at home as the symbol of this blog.

Ut took the democrats over 40 years to become arrogant and power crazy. The republicans did it in less than ten.

I live in Springfield and couldn't figure out why the attack ads were coming from Goodman, all the other guy's ads were really non descript.

Hammer down baby!
oh yeah, as an aside, the Christian Right is neither

I haven't seen a positive political ad this year. This seems to be an unfortunate sign of the times. Historically, most candidates have created both positive and negative ads to house in their arsenal. Somewhere in a protracted media war, one side goes negative and the opponent soon follows. Lately, they just start negative. What a great year it is going to be with Talent vs. McCaskill in Missouri or Sebellius vs. ? in Kansas.
