Lawsuit filed against city of Sarcoxie, police officer

A woman who claims she was mistreated by a Sarcoxie police officer while trying to see her son who had been arrested, is suing the city and the officer for more than half a million dollars.
In the lawsuit, filed today in U. S. District Court for the Western District of Missouri, Jeannette Mettlach says Officer Jeffrey Steffen did not allow her to see her 17-year-old son after the teen was arrested. She then asked again to be allowed to see her son. At that point, the lawsuit says, "Steffan physically grabbed Mettlach by the shoulder and pushed her to the outside area of the building." Mettlach told Steffan she had recently had neck and back surgery, "and that he was hurting her. Steffan again pushed her further outside of the police station."

The lawsuit says that after Mrs. Mettlach told Steffan he was hurting her, the officer continued to twist her shoulder. After Mrs. Mettlach's husband, Patrick, became involved, he was arrested.

In the seven-count lawsuit, the Mettlachs are asking for $675,000 minimum in actual and punitive damages.

I hate lawsuits like this. They a. give police a bad rap because they can't comment back and b. common sense tells you to back away when told no by police and get a lawyer and c. over $600,000 for what???

Also, who doesn't have back pain these days? I've been moving and I have back pain...my neighbor has gardened and he has back pain. I'm so tired of all these poor, pathetic back-pained people. They suck them medical system dry, they eat painkillers like candy and then ask for disability.
