Michael Jackson's off the top of the cable news networks for a while as news has been spreading like wildfire about the impending resignation of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin.
"Only dead fish go with the flow," Mrs. Palin said, explaining her decision to step down at the end of this month.
Oddly, despite the access Fox News Channel has had to Mrs. Palin since she was named as John McCain's running mate last summer, Fox has been pounded by CNN and MSNBC on coverage of the resignation.
MSNBC'S Pat Buchanan and Fox's Bill Kristol say this is a shrewd move, and that she is positioning herself for a run for the 2012 presidential nomination. Pat and Bill missed the mark on this one. If she cannot even completely serve one term as governor of Alaska, why should anyone think she will stick with it as president.
Right now, Mark Sanford has a better chance of winning the GOP nomination three years from now.

Odd! I bet there is an underlying scandal we will find out about, or she just couldn't keep up with the daily duties of her job. It's inconceivable that she would just quit with only a year and a half left to seek the potentially open Senate seat in 2010 and certainly this doesn't look favorable for a Presidential bid in 2012. There has to be more to the story that her son Trig and the "lame duck" excuse she gave.

I don't know about the reason why Sarah Palin dropped out, but I do know that she had a strong, solid segment of supporters who would likely have backed a 2012 presidential candidacy had she stayed in office. She has been making one mistake after another though- picking a fight with the father of Bristol's child and his family, getting into the brawl with David Letterman, and now this. She needed to finish her one term as governor of Alaska and study up on national and international issues to have a shot at president in 2012. This looks like getting out whan the heat is on her, and that is not what we look for in presidents.

As far as her political aspirations go, a national embarrassment who quit when things got too tough? not hardly.
Bottom line: it sure looks like ol' Sarah blew the famous "3 a.m. phone call" test. I mean, if a few mean jokes are enough to send her running for home, just imagine *shudder* if she'd ever become president and had to deal with the North Koreans!
Republicans, we tried to tell you Nanook of the Nordstrom's was flaky. I think 54 million voters need to do a little self-questioning of their judgment.

Let me see if I Understand this comparison. Sarah Palin quits after two and a half years because she is tired of all of those people who have been causing her problems. Barack Obama leaves his office as U. S. senator after being elected to a higher office and continuing to serve the people. I hate to tell you this, but that comparison does not work in Sarah Palin's favor.

Great putdown, but it doesn't do a thing to refute the truth of what I wrote.
I'm beginning to take Occam's Razor to this ... could it really be as simple as Palin thinking she's "the hot commodity" post the 2008 veep run, and that anonymity being a governor in Alaska will kill that?
So she's got to get to the lower 48 and lose the shackles of having to do governing.
The timing of this on a news and political black hole of Friday July 3 is to suppress the worst part of the story: That she's quitting, breaking her promise to Alaskans.
She's gambling that three years from now, that part of the story won't matter to the cheering throngs she's gathering for her movement toward '12.
If this is really all this is, it is one of the worst political miscalculations I can ever remember in my lifetime.
She's now The Quitter. The ONE THING she had going for her bona fides was she was governor of an American state. She's bailing on that 2.5 years into her first term.
And she thinks enough voters are going to overlook these things for her to gain another elected office?

It is quickly looking like anything will be better than what we currently have in office. Obama has let everyone down and has so far been the biggest do-nothing President in history. Pick something and focus Mr. Harvard graduate.....do ANYTHING! Can anyone say "stagrfright". The guy is peeing down his leg right now.

Ahhhh yes the old "I didn't make the mess but I have to clean it up excuse". I love it when the incoming President (of either party) likes to use this excuse. But I thought Obama had all of the answers and now it is very apparent even to members of his own party that he is in way over his head and is in trouble. Let's not continue to live in the past here....and just as we did not give Bush a pass we can't give one to Obama either. You need to not be blinded by partisan ideals here. His feet need to be held to the fire. As bad as I hate to say this, so far he hasn't even out-performed Bush.
