With 116 people dead and the toll expected to rise, Cantor's strict adherence to GOP dogma seems highly inappropriate.
Of course, the toll does not include anyone in the Virginia Republican's district:
The No. 2 House Republican said that if Congress doles out additional money to assist in the aftermath of natural disasters across the country, the spending may need to be offset.
House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.) said "if there is support for a supplemental, it would be accompanied by support for having pay-fors to that supplemental."
Finding ways to offset disaster relief funds could be a significant challenge for House Republicans and would put their promise to cut spending to a true test. Roughly 100 people have died in Joplin, Mo., in the last few days after a tornado cut through the town.

Somebody please check the official Tea Party platform and see if FEMA is an approved-of government agency, or if disaster relief is one of those things that should be handled locally.
Like the Department of Education.
Randy, shame on you.this is low even for you. I challenge you to show where anyone says there will be no relief....you must be afraid of Mr. Cantor....so you start looking for way to slant things.
You are acting like the other Democratic goom squads
Shame, shame, shame
You owe an apology to everyone who lost someone in this tragedy
Apparently, you are the only one who is not making the connection here. Believe me, it is Eric Cantor who owes the people of Joplin an apology and not me.
Lets start with your salary you Putz!
Anon 3:49,
You Republicans have done enough thank you. Just sit down and shut up. Left up to you guys there would be NO assistance for anyone unless it was a tax break for a millionaire.
I'm sure the money being spent to help people in these disasters is just killing the Republicans. Helping the common people, the, the non-rich? Oh, what a nightmare it must be for them. Who knows, next they'll want medical care or food! Damn it!!
I'm with you Randy and sit tight, the Republicans have only begun to show their color with the things they say.
After their attempt to destroy Medicare I think we can thin the herd real soon.
The title of your post says must be offset. In the body of the post it says may need to be offset. So Which is it? Looks like you should be writing for the Lamar Democrat again!
Well here's an idea. If Joplin can't get federal aid maybe they should ask the Saudis or Chinese for help.
It's pretty damn sad that corporations get more help from the republicans than honest Americans.
I truly believe we have the best politicians that money can buy.
Come on guys. Without Cantor diligent protection of our budget where would we find the funds necessary for additional tax cuts.
Comments I have seen elsewhere on this subject have suggested offsets spending cuts such as using money that goes to foreign aid, big oil subsidies and tax breaks for the wealthy rather than cuts to education, social security and medicare. Cantor's comments though, stink of tightening the belt anywhere but on the fat cats.
