As soon as they learned of the deadly tornado, those who worked with Rohr immediately thought of him and those living in Joplin.
Piqua resident Elaine G. Barton said, "I wondered if he was ok, if his family was safe and certainly what was going on as far as the city staff and just kind of putting ourselves into that position. What we would do if we had such devastation here."
Piqua leaders are already discussing ways to collect monetary donations for Mark Rohr and the city of Joplin.

Joplin city manager's former home collects money for tornado relief
The people of Piqua, Ohio, where Mark Rohr served as city manager before coming to Joplin to take the same position, are chipping in to help with tornado relief, according to WDTN:
