The deadliest tornado in more than a half-century rendered Joplin — the hub of her native Jasper County — unrecognizable. Her father, Shane, emotionally described the apocalyptic scene of rubble, mangled cars and felled trees to her as “360 degrees of total devastation.” The Domino’s Pizza shop he owned was gone.
“It’s never going to be the same,” said Hudson, MU’s star sophomore third baseman. “It’s really hard to be stuck up here and feel helpless when all my friends are down there helping.”

Hours after she helped lead MU's softball team to a regional win, third baseman Nicole Hudson of Webb City, heard the news about the tornado that hit neighboring Joplin Sunday night and destroyed her father's Domino's Pizza store:
