Rasmussen, one of four city manager candidates who hope to continue steering Joplin along the course of recovery, was city administrator for Jefferson City and was fired by the City Council on that evening.
The dismissal came after a change in mayors, according to an article by veteran reporter Bob Watrson in today's Jefferson City News Tribune. In the article, Rasmussen, 65, explains why he wants the job and why he thinks he is a good fit for Joplin:
“But, what I’ve found was, I really just wanted to get back in the business full time — the business of being able to do long-term projects, where you work on it and then see the benefits of them for the city and the taxpayers.
“That’s really a great joy to me, at this stage of my life.”
Rasmussen told the News Tribune he’s attracted to the Joplin situation.
“Joplin has several very difficult problems they’re working on,” he explained. “One is, they’re still in the recovery from the terrible tornado.
“They’re working on downtown renovation. They have a real infrastructure problem that they’re working on.
“And those are all things that I have done a lot of, and have a great deal of experience and expertise on.”

If this is accurately quoted, and not too out of context; he sounds like another self centered ego-driven politico. 'This is why this is good for me. You would be lucky to have me....'
Which is exactly why he will be chosen...unless they can find an even bigger pompous ass,
