Carthage R-9 distributes 3,272 meals

(From the Carthage R-9 School District)

Food distribution update

Wow, what a crazy day yesterday! We thought the number of people participating in the meal distribution program would increase due to word of mouth.

Although we only received 58 additional meal requests via Facebook or by calling Central Office, our staff prepared double the number of meals compared to Monday.

Unbelievably, we ran out of food! We served 1,108 meals Monday. Yesterday . . . 3,272! Yes, 3,272!

I am sorry if you did not receive food yesterday. However, as you can see, there is no way to anticipate distributing almost three times more meals when we only had 58 additional requests.

Unfortunately, we had to use many food items yesterday that were supposed to be served tomorrow. We will prepare as many meals as we can. You might receive a mixture of breakfast and lunch items in one bag. Please remember we are only serving one breakfast and one lunch tomorrow.

We realized Columbian Elementary physically cannot serve more than 850 total meals due to kitchen size and storage issues. You might have to go to another site to pick up food.

I don’t know what I can say to our food service staff to adequately say thank you. They are displaying undeniable commitment to our kids and community.

Superintendent
