The petition, which was started by Destiny Corkle on the change.org website says Shaw is not prioritizing the needs of Joplin residents:

Mayor Gary Shaw is not prioritizing the health and well being of Joplin residence. Despite the desperate pleas from the medical community. Please sign the petition demanding he act!The goal is to obtain 5,000 signatures.
City officials have put together what is needed to issue a stay-at-home order, but during a briefing Thursday, Shaw indicated after receiving considerable input from citizens and consulting with former Joplin Mayor and state legislator Ron Richard, Jasper County Presiding Commissioner John Bartosh, Rep. Cody Smith, R-Carthage, who is the chairman of the House Budget Committee and others he had opted not to issue the order.
"Right now, we are going to continue to do business as we have been doing recently."

So apparently, we have to be told officially? Like children? We can't self quarantine basically without it being mandatory? Common sense people. Mr Shaw trusted our judgement, so law enforcement etc would not be forced to take enforcement of such an order on in addition to their regular duties. You people are unreal for sure.

Wake up. While you may use common sense, many ARE like children and have to be told.
There are too many who do have to be told because they think they are invincible, or they have no common sense, or they just don't care who they spread this crap to. Yeah for you if you are smart enough to stay home but there are people working out there who have to have contact with people who refuse to see what is happening, and they are repeatedly exposed. People are dying, it is time to take action.
And of all of those people that our mayor conferred with, were any of them medical professionals?
It's hard to believe how many people want our rights taken away. Be smart, be cautious, but don't let the government tell you where to be under penelty of law.
The medical professionals are the ones who want the mandatory stay home because they know they're going to at some point be overrun and tired. It's not taking your rights away it's trying to save lives. I wish I had never bought a house in this city! I should have inquired who the mayor was before I did. It's not enough that the city council has squandered away countless dollars but they continue to make bad decisions for this city and we the voters sit back and let them! Just like them taking part of my land for an easement I got no money for and then came back and took more for a stupid needless money pit walking trail!! Wake up joplin the mayor needs to go and we need to be careful who we elect from now on our this same stupidity will continue.
