Webb City R-7 superintendent offers update on district's efforts during COVID-19 emergency

(From the Webb City R-7 School District)

Good morning we wanted to take a moment to give our Webb City Community an update.

This week we have kicked off our first ever virtual spirit week. We have enjoyed seeing our students and community members get involved and hope you continue throughout the week to post pictures.

Starting tomorrow, Wednesday, March 25, personnel will be available from 9:00am to 1:00pm to answer phone calls in each building. However, buildings district-wide will still have restricted access.

Additionally, Food Service will continue to offer Grab-n-Go meals, though the time has changed slightly. Meals will now be offered Monday through Friday from 11:30am to 12:30pm. We do want to make our parents aware that our teachers will be making contact with our students to establish communication and to ask them a few survey questions about device availability.

If you happen to receive a call from an unknown number, please know this may be your students teacher trying to reach out to you.

The district has been working on an alternative method of instruction the past two weeks. Our mission is to provide educational services to our parents and students as well as food service accessibility.

We plan to deploy supplemental educational services as early as Monday, March 30th. Though no plan is perfect and ours is ever-evolving we want to be a resource to our students' continued learning. Included in our plans are recommendations for parents to self-select what is most appropriate for their child's education.

These will not be mandates, these will be suggestions of support that we can provide during this time given our limited circumstances.

It’s a desire for the district to be a resource, not a burden during these difficult times. During our closure, please remember that all district facilities are closed. This includes all gymnasiums, fields, and practice fields.

In the event of severe weather, district FEMA shelters will open as normal. These shelters are, Harry S Truman, Carterville, Madge T. James, and the High School Dome. Our Technology and Public Relations teams have been working diligently to provide communication services to you during this unprecedented time.

There is now a new subsite on our district website specifically designed for this time of school closure.

You can access this information at: https://www.wcr7.org/covid-19 Additionally, communication will continue to be pushed out through district Facebook (Webb City School District), Twitter (@WebbCitySchools), Instagram (webbcitysd) and as stated above, our district website https://www.wcr7.org/covid-19.

The safety and well being of our staff and students remains our top priority during this time. We must remain united and support each other as we continue to face uncertainty as the greater community faces this global health challenge.

We appreciate your patience and grace as we monitor the situation and innovatively respond to this evolving pandemic. Sincerely, Dr. Anthony Rossetti
