Second Neosho R-5 administrator out the door, Nathan Manley resigns

The resignation of Neosho R-5 Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum Nathan Manley is expected to be officially accepted when the Board of Education meets 6 p.m. Monday at the Administrative Center.

The resignation will officially take effect June 30, but reportedly Manley appearances have been scarce on the R-5 campus.

Manley's resignation follows the forced resignation in August of Richie Fretwell, who reportedly was accompanied by a police escort when he left the campus.

Fretwell continues to receive the remainder of his $150,000+ salary, though he no longer does any work for the district as a result of his separation agreement from the district. His resignation also takes effect June 30.

Manley, like Fretwell, and Jim Cummins, the retired superintendent, who brought them to Neosho, came to the R-5 District from Seneca, where Manley served as a principal.

Reportedly, other high-ranking officials in the R-5 District should start thinking about updating their resumes.

It's about time they started cleaning house over there. That district deserves better from their "leaders". See ya Good Ol Boys!

Neosho school district has been a disaster since the 70s. Lets clean it out, stop the nepotism, and start over with fresh ideas and new hires who aren't already bought out by the local group of brown nosing parents who's egos (insecurities) are bigger than their bank accounts and knowledge.

Goodbye, Mr Manley. Maybe you should have done your job better. You were always too busy pushing IReady, ultimately sinking MAP scores. Ran around schools and stuck your nose in staff issues ( you were not HR), and lastly- your weekly long lunches with selected instructional coaches. You demanded majority of teachers follow chain of command but you sure as hell allowed some people to circumvent that by texting you directly to tattle or move students from a classroom. I will NOT miss you at all.

Time to Clean House - They have a Lot More to Go.

Depends on what unreliable source you ask. Fretwell was never escorted out by police. Poor Randy needs clicks so he continues to play that incorrect card. Maybe a real reporter would reach out to Dr. Manley and see if he wants to share his plans for the future.

I’ve heard some seriously concerning things about staff that have come to Neosho out of Seneca. Seneca apparently likes to keep their mouths firmly shut when crap goes down and sweep it under the rug letting the abuse of power, sexual misconduct and thievery move on to Neosho. Lots of staff need their pasts (and likely present) brought to light.

Please give more details! That's some bold statements there.

Truthfully, any callup (hire) from the minor leagues requires a thorough prosecution of past history, ability to work with others, and criminal background. Not sure which district is the minors but neither can claim to be the major leagues either.

I still say , every employee needs to be drug tested that works for the school district! Including the principal at the high school . When you have drug free workers , you have a better work place !

8:38 - I think you are one of three people close to Mr Manley. I can hear your voice by the words you have chosen. Maybe Manley is seeking his future representing IReady since he sold Neosho on the idea it would replace MAP testing. Maybe he is going on the speaking circuit with Solution Tree -“All Means All”.
Maybe he’s penning a book about how to coach Project Based Learning.

Whatever his future plans are - I’m glad he’s gone. It’s karma.

Should be mandatory for all school districts. Not just teachers but ALL school employess. Hair sample at he time of being hired and randoms throughout the year.

These Neosho teachers and administrators don’t teach anymore. They are more worried about their coach responsibilities along with their umpiring and refereeing. I don’t think they are at school all day because of these other jobs.

Sportsball is out of control in school districts nationwide. Should be tied to true and accurate academic data. If a school is failing academically, then they don't have time for games. Attendance should also play a role. Attendance is poor nationwide in schools.

The ridiculous amount of money going to build high school stadiums would be able to hire top teachers and feed every kid in district, breakfast lunch and supper for a year or more. Last I looked, there are VERY few professional athletes coming from the 4 state area. Who needs $1000000+ turf and $500000 scoreboards?.....just parents who were high school athletic failures who now live vicariously through their kids.

As usual, people's comments are speculative and provide zero evidence. In general, when leaders lack the skills to be diplomatic and to compromise, they turn to tyranny: it's my way or else; and when people dare to disagree, they get their heads chopped off. The Neosho School District needs a clear and comprehensive academic vision or else their scores will continue to tank. Slashing and burning administrative staff with an academic focus just returns the district to ground zero.

The coach to administrator pipeline is a serious issue in our nation's schools. One cannot expect a coach to have an academic focus; although some do, they are rare. However, many coach-administrators are able to surround themselves with people they trust to be professionals and experts, then let them do their jobs. That's the ability to delegate one's authority and not micro-manage, which is what true leaders are comfortable doing.

Winner, winner, chicken dinner!

The hiring trend is horrible. Let’s hire an assistant to the assistant soccer coach and have them teach PE. Why not hire someone capable of teaching Math or English? And these early outs at 8 am for softball this past year was horrible.
