The Newton County Prosecuting Attorney's office is asking for either a high bond or no bond for a Joplin man who allegedly sent nude photos showing him handling himself and videos that show him performing a solo sexual act from start to finish.
Michael Duwayne Cooper (DOB 1992) is charged with sexual misconduct, a misdemeanor, and this is not the first time or the first woman who has received sex photos and videos from him, according to the complaint.
Defendant was charged in case 24NW-CR01140 in front of this court with the same offense, alleging the same conduct to a different individual on or about July 18, 2024.
Defendant was released on that case on a code bond of $500 on or about September 16, 2024.
The Defendant’s continued conduct presents a clear danger to the community in that Defendant has perpetrated the same offense on another victim.
From the probable cause statement in the current case:
I have probable cause to believe that Vl has been receiving sexually explicit photos and videos from the suspect, Michael Dewayne Cooper, which she has identified in the photos and videos sent to her via text messages.Vl stated that she told Michael to cease contact with her approximately a year ago. Vl stated that she has been harassed in this manner over the last several months and has repeatedly told Michael to stop sending these sexually explicit photos and videos.
Vl has blocked Michael numerous times, but Michael has been generating new phone numbers to text her from.
The case was investigated by the Newton County Sheriff's Office.
