Former Joplin restaurant manager charged with stealing

A former Joplin restaurant manager was charged with stealing $1,839.87 from her employer.

An arrest warrant was issued today for Ashley Renae Hackett (DOB 1984), Joplin, with bond set at $25,000 cash or surety.

From the probable cause statement:

On January 16th, 2025, Officers with the Joplin Police Department responded to a business (Victim 1) that is located in the City of Joplin, Jasper County, Missouri for a reported theft case.

During the course of the investigation, information was provided that Ashley Hackett was a former manager at the restaurant. Witness 1 received information from Witness 2 that there was a cash shortage which prompted an audit. Witness 1 provided computerized records that reflected approximately 50 cash transactions that were voided by Mrs. Hackett between December 20th, 2024 and January 11th, 2025.

The total loss for the transactions amounted to $1,839.37.

I interviewed several witnesses who provided accounts where Mrs. Hackett would complete transactions for their specified guests but would only handle the cash transactions. Mrs. Hackett committed the offense of stealing by receiving cash rendered for payments, and voiding the transactions in the point of sale system, thereby depriving Victim 1 of the money paid by the customers for the services rendered.
