Robbery, domestic assault, endangering the welfare of a child charges filed after attack at Joplin home

The Jasper County Prosecuting Attorney's office filed first degree robbery, burglary and domestic assault and endangering the welfare of a child, all felonies, today against Joe Jess Ross (DOB 1985), Willard, following an incident today at a home on St. Charles Avenue in Joplin.

From the probable cause statement:

On 03/24/25 Joe Ross kicked open the front door of 232 S St. Charles Ave, Joplin, Jasper County, MO 64801 which caused damage to the frame. The homeowner, V2, advised he was friends with Ross, but did not give him permission to enter the residence.

When Ross kicked the front door open, he pointed a loaded Tavor TS12 12 gauge shotgun (SN: H0011289) at V2 and demanded his cell phone.

Also in the residence was Ross’s girlfriend (romantic relationship) of more than 1 year, V1, and V1’s two young children (8 and 9 years old). After V2 handed Ross his cell phone, Ross released control of the shotgun and began to assault V1.

According to V1, Ross attempted to grab her and then put his hands around her throat as if to strangle her while she was trying to escape.

As Ross assaulted V1 they fell on one of V1’s children. The Children witnessed the entire event and yelled for help as their mother was assaulted.

Ross' bond was set at $50,000 cash only.

The case was investigated by the Joplin Police Department.
