Open and shut case.
Juveniles entered a home, threw a rock through the glass back door, left racist symbols, including a swastika, spray painted racial slurs on the televisions, cut wires and left an obscene drawing.
Fortunately for the homeowners, there were witnesses to the crime, who were able to identify the culprits, a group that allegedly included Carl Junction school athletes.
That open and shut case involving vandalism and the violation of a family's home remains an open case two years later.
In an unusual step, the Carl Junction Police Department responded to a viral Facebook post about the crime Tuesday, sending the message that the investigation into the crime was recently reopened and that the investigation results have been forwarded to juvenile authorities:
We have been made aware of a Facebook post put out by the frustrated victim of a burglary. We understand the frustration as the case was initially inactivated due to a lack of evidence tying anyone to the crime.However, we later got new information about the incident, and Detective (Greg) Dagnan (who did not work for us at the time of the incident) reopened the investigation.
Once the suspects were identified and found to be juveniles, Det. Dagnan presented the case to the Juvenile Office for them to consider charges against the juvenile suspects.

I am beyond frustrated and disappointed by the lack of action from law enforcement regarding a serious incident that occurred at my home 2 YEARS AGO IN CARL JUNCTION.My property was broken into by a group of kids who not only destroyed my belongings but also spray-painted racial slurs throughout my house. This is more than just vandalism; this is also a hate crime, and I believe the “POSSIBLE” charges that have been mentioned should reflect that—SECOND DEGREE BURGLARY WITH ENHANCEMENT OF HATE CRIME.
What makes this situation even worse is that there are witnesses, and it is clear that the parents of these kids know exactly what happened. However, I have yet to receive any form of justice or accountability.
The parents haven’t reached out to apologize or anything, and they continue with their daily lives as if nothing happened. This is disgusting, and frankly, it’s heartbreaking to see this kind of behavior go unaddressed.
To make matters worse, these same kids are representing the school on sports teams.
How are we allowing this kind of behavior to go unchecked?
I won’t name names just yet but let me make one thing clear: I know exactly who you are, and I will not let this go unnoticed. I will be actively looking for an attorney who specializes in crimes like this, as law enforcement has shown little concern.
Not to mention, they closed this case at first!
It was then picked back up by Detective Dagnan who has done great. This is not just about broken property; it’s about ensuring that accountability is held, and that this kind of behavior is not excused.

CJ is overrun with hatred
So they got publicly called on their lack of effort and figured they better do something. If Dagnon is the one that decided to take the action the victim deserved then I hope he gets the backing he needs, otherwise they're gonna end up a catch and release town like Joplin. Just breeding criminals.

I’m sure these athletes parents are behind this, not my kid he wouldn’t do that he’s an athlete he’s going to a pro. Parents get real these kids are going to be in there 40’s talking about a stupid sport they did when they were in their teens, with the same thugs drinking beer. Remember if you peak in High School you loose in real life. High School is temporary don’t do stupid shit that will affect your future
Didn’t the retiring CJ Superintendent tell us he was unaware of any bullying in our schools?
Where do you pull the Superintendent into this? The police dropped the ball and caught up. If you have a complaint, that’s where it should go. I’m guessing if it rains, it’s the superintendent’s fault, he should have known some kids were behind it…
Won’t blame an individual as much as it’s a direct reflection of Cook’s leadership of the district as his best friend is the athletic director and his best friend is also the football coach. This is why there was no disciplinary action taken when the football players took acid at a Saturday night party in 2023 and then were able to play the following Friday. Wouldn’t be surprised if it wasn’t the same group of kids. The lack of accountability and responsibility runs rampant through the district from administration (principals carrying on affairs), to the teachers (stalking and child porn) and to the students (drug use, vandalism, etc). Throw in the Briarbrook sense of entitlement and you have Carl Junction summed up completely.
By the time a judge sentences them, it will be 2 days before their legal adult age unfortunately. A lawyer can string this on for a couple years in criminal court. Good planning by the coaches and parents involved to keep their racist, breaking and entering little vandals out of legal trouble. Restitution will carry over on them though and I guess that's good for the homeowners this happened to. Their parents will pay it out through a court assigned payment plan at 50 bucks a month.They won't go to juvy hall, jail or prison. This won't remain on their record. Names will never be told because they are juveniles. I have seen this very thing happen before. You want real justice you must get it yourself.

The police didn’t drop the ball. Missouri’s Juvenile Office failed to press charges.
None of this is a surprise. Carl Junction is a cesspool. Has been for years. It's a community of the 'have's and have not's'. Yes, most things that have been said about the superintendent (on this site) are correct-he knew. His poor excuse at naivety is laughable. My children went through the CJ school system.. Fortunately, they made it unscathed. The things that are being reported are nothing new. CJ has a history of protecting the so-called elitist's and sweeping allegations under the rug. Hopefully Greg will make a much needed difference there.
