Carl Junction woman charged with trafficking after vehicle search reveals fentanyl, cocaine, more


A Carl Junction woman was charged with first degree drug trafficking after a search of her vehicle during a traffic stop by the Joplin Police Department Friday turned up fentanyl, cocaine and other illegal substances.

Bond was set at $75,000 surety plus $5,000 cash for Selena Leigh Jones (DOB 1981).

The allegations against Jones were detailed in a probable cause statement filed Monday in Jasper County Circuit Court.







On 02/28/2025 I stopped a white Ford F350 after I observed Selena Leigh Jones driving it southbound on a public roadway in Joplin, Jasper County, Missouri. I knew Jones had a revoked driving status. I stopped Jones and arrested her for driving while revoked.

While searching Jones incident to arrest I located a pink container inside her sock. Inside the pink container, I located a large white/grey rock which I immediately recognized to be fentanyl based off of my training and experience.

Jones admitted to the substance being fentanyl under Miranda warning. A search of Jones' purse inside her vehicle resulted in locating approximately 2.5 grams of a white powder-like substance that the TruNarc instrument identified to be cocaine.

Inside Jones' purse was also a glass pipe with burnt residue inside. Jones informed me that she had ingested fentanyl as I was stopping her vehicle so she was transported to a local hospital to be medically cleared.







While at the hospital, a nurse, Witness 1, observed Jones attempt to eat additional fentanyl that was not located during the initial search.

In total, Jones had approximately 7.19 grams of fentanyl, 2.5 grams of cocaine and several miscellaneous pills identified as Xanax, Adderall, Clonazepam and hydros.

At the time of her arrest, Jones was awaiting, Jones was free on bond awaiting a March 24 sentencing after pleading guilty February 10 to drug trafficking and two counts of possession of a controlled substance. The case was investigated by the Joplin Police Department.
