In light of the NCAA's announcement at 3:15 pm today to cancel all Winter and Spring Championships for all three divisions, along with the decision by numerous NCAA Division I and II conferences to suspend or cancel spring sport seasons, the MIAA has announced all universities in the league will suspend all intercollegiate sports effective at 11 pm this evening.
All teams on the road will be called home and no new practice or competition can occur beginning tomorrow until further notice. This mandate includes all sports, not just winter and spring, including spring football.
The NCAA is working to begin sorting out the waiver process, legislative amendments, etc. for student-athletes and more information will be released as it becomes available.
"This is truly a horrible day for collegiate athletics and the rate at which it progressed over the last eight hours is hard to grasp," said Director of Athletics Jared Bruggeman. "This entire situation is hard for our student-athletes, coaches, staff and fans. With that said, we must act in the best interest of the health and safety of everyone concerned. It is imperative that we all do our part to be supportive of each other and the student-athletes as we work through this situation."
