The City announces a new email address for citizens to use if they have questions about the coronavirus. Please send these to Covidquestions@joplinmo.org This is a NEW address and replaces the former email address, which has been disengaged due to a large amount of spam hitting the mailbox and making it inefficient for staff to use.
City staff initiated an email option to help citizens with questions about various matters related to COVID-19 when the pandemic began several months ago. Since then, staff have been helping citizens, businesses, churches, and other organizations with their questions.
“We recognize that there are many different aspects related to COVID-19, especially relating to City recommendations and Council ordinances,” said City Manager Nick Edwards. “We encourage the public to use this portal to get clarification on items they may be facing in a particular situation. This tool worked well during the stay home order, and we’re here to help now as the mask ordinance takes effect.”
Edwards noted that this email is not intended as a “tattle tool” relating to the mask ordinance, as some on social media have discussed, but to provide an opportunity for the public to get their questions answered.
“The City is in the business of public health, just as we are with public safety and other areas,” he said. “With that in mind, we pursue things that protect our public’s health. By wearing a mask, we can help reduce the spread of the coronavirus.”
He noted that public businesses and public facilities are required to post signage stating that masks need to be worn in these locations. Masks are one of the preventative measures the public can take to decrease the possible transmission of the virus, along with washing hands, sanitizing common items, and staying home if not feeling well.
Joplin’s mask ordinance can be found on the City’s website at www.joplimo.org/coronavirus . A link to send an email is also on this site.
