(From the Carthage R-9 School District)The Carthage R-9 Board of Education met in regular session on Monday, September 18, 2023, 6:00 pm, at Carthage High School. Present were Board members Jeff Jones, Bill Lasley, Niki Cloud, Ryan Collier, Nathan Terry, and Lora Phelps. Patrick Scott was absent.
The Carthage High School Soundwave choir students performed the National Anthem and “Wings” from the 2023-24 competition set under the direction of vocal music co-directors Mrs. Katie Crigger and Mr. Brian Hargrave.
The Board approved the Consent Agenda for the purpose of approving the meeting agenda, minutes of previous meeting, payment of bills, and district financial report.
Mrs. Kim Ensminger, Early Childhood Director, and Mrs. Kamie Bourgault, Parents as Teachers Director, presented the MSIP 6 Standard: Teaching and Learning (TL2) – Early Childhood Education evaluative report to the board. Mrs. Ensminger stated the district will expand early childhood education opportunities to empower students for future success. Early Childhood programming continues to utilize ELLC, Phonics Dance and Heggerty, and Handwriting Without Tears. Mrs. Bourgault stated the school system ensures birth through pre-kindergarten population has access to high-quality early learning experiences. Parents as Teachers are continually working to recruit families into programs and strengthen partnerships with organizations and businesses to suggest resources for families.
Mr. Jones provided a Carthage R-9 Foundation update stating the foundation and school district are partnering together to raise additional funds for the Carthage Baseball field. Dr. Boyer announced the Step Up to the Plate Baseball fundraising campaign will start September 22nd through October 25th.
Dr. Boyer stated outside of the generous donation from the K.D. & M.L. Steadley Trust, the project will take additional funding for completion and will be completed in phases. Dr. Boyer provided the Board information regarding the revised policies and regulations for their review and consideration for adoption at the October 16th board meeting. Dr. Boyer stated online giving will be available for the Step Up to the Plate Baseball fundraising campaign. The school district will be utilizing an online giving program through 4aGoodCause that can be accessed on the district's website at www.carthagetigers.org/baseball.
Dr. Boyer presented administrative reports to the board with relevant information regarding the start of the school year.
The Board met in closed session immediately following the regular meeting to discuss personnel matters in compliance with Section 610.021 (3) of the Revised Statutes of Missouri. In closed session the Board approved the following personnel actions:
Approved the employment of certified, support, extra duty, and substitute staff as presented contingent upon receiving a clear criminal record check from the Missouri Highway Patrol and Federal Bureau of Investigation, and a clear check of the Adult Abuse/Neglect Registry maintained by the Missouri Department of Social Services for all employees new to the district:
