The Jasper County Prosecuting Attorney filed felony stealing charges against a Carthage man today in connection with the theft of two MacBook Air computers from a Webb City High School employee's vehicle Tuesday.
A warrant has been issued for the arrest of Christopher Allen Swigert (DOB 1997), Carthage, with bond set at $10,000 surety.
From the probable cause statement:
On 10/17/2023, video footage shows Christopher Swigert leaving Victim 1’s vehicle at approximately 0100 hours. Swigert was able to gain access into the vehicle where he stole the following items:MacBook Air valued at approximately $1,000 dollars, another MacBook Air that was issued to her by her work (Webb City High school) valued at $1,000 dollars, a North face jacket valued at $50 and a black backpack valued at $50.
The footage shows Swigert also attempting to break in to the neighbor’s vehicle, too. Officers recognized Swigert from the video footage. Swigert was also wearing the same clothing that he wore when retrieving property from the police department the day prior.
Swigert was wearing lighter color jeans with a rip above the left knee and white tennis shoes with a black tongue. The total theft was approximately $2,100 dollars.
Victim #1 was able to track her personal laptop to Witness #1’s house. Witness #1 said that Swigert had given him the laptop last night. Victim 1 said that at the time Swigert had two and did not need both.
Witness #1 gave the laptop to me, which was returned to victim #1.
Officers were later contacted by Witness #2 who advised that Swigert showed up at this house and asked to stay in his back yard because the police were looking for him. Witness #2 stated that Swigert informed him that he had stolen two laptops and the police had already recovered one. Swigert was later arrested at this address.
The case was investigated by the Carthage Police Department.
