Dancing video leads to Joplin man's arrest on weapons charge

A Joplin man with four felony convictions has been charged with illegal possession of a firearm after he sent a video showing him holding and pointing two guns.

A $25,000 cash only bond has been set for Donald L. Smith (DOB 1983). If he is able to post bond, he will be under house arrest and required to wear an ankle monitor.

According to the probable cause statement, Smith made a video of himself singing and dancing in a garage.

Smith was wearing a black and white outfit. While dancing he is seen manipulating a semi-automatic pistol. Another video was made with Smith wearing a blue and white polo shirt, holding and pointing a revolver at the camera.

On this video you can see live rounds in the chamber or wheel of the pistol. You can also see the firearm is loaded, looking down the barrel.

The semi-automatic pistol was identified by Smith as a 9mm handgun. The revolver he was holding was identified by Smith as a 357.

Smith is a convicted felon with four felony convictions, including a conviction for Robbery 1st and sentenced to 20 years.

In a message Smith sent along with the video he "told the recipient he was about the gang life and murder on mines."

The case was investigated by the Joplin Police Department.
