Neosho exploring move to newly formed Ozark Mountain Conference

The recent announcement that Carl Junction is leaving the Central Ozark Conference to join the newly formed Ozark Mountain Conference may not be the last conference shift among area schools.

Neosho R-5 officials are surveying district patrons to see how they would feel about making the same shift. In a message left on the district's Facebook page today, patrons were told the new conference have been in touch to check Neosho's interest.

And judging from the tone of the message, the new conference needs to know as soon as possible since the survey has to be filled out by 5 p.m. Thursday.

The Facebook message is printed below

Wildcat Nation, your opinion matters. Recently there has been a shake up in conference alignment in southwest Missouri. See the survey link and additional details below.

Take the survey: https://forms.gle/ho8f3RgDGbz3EyTb6

Beginning in the 2024-2025 school year, Branson, Bolivar, Carl Junction, Logan-Rogersville, Marshfield and West Plains will compete in the newly formed Ozark Mountain Conference.

In addition, Hillcrest and Parkview (Springfield schools have petitioned to join the OMC. Superintendents from the Ozark Mountain Conference have inquired as to Neosho’s interest. It was also shared that a similar inquiry was made of Willard.

We value the opinion of those who have competed for NHS, regardless of what conference was in existence when you played, those who are presently competing, the parents and family members who support our athletes and the stakeholders who support and help fund our schools through your tax dollars. All we ever strive for is to do the best thing for our students. Thank you for taking the time to complete the survey, see link above.

Due to time considerations, we ask that you provide your feedback by 5:00 p.m., Thursday, October 19, 2023.

Neosho sure can't win in the current conference. Hate to travel to West Plains just too win a football game.

Why change? Neosho has their artificial turf, oversized indoor athletic building, and millions spent on athletic facilities and still find themselves in the perpetual cycle of losing. My money would be better spent on improving the graduation rate and sending more kids to college.

It's a new era and many of the best high schools are fighting to get their piece of the cable revenue.

Not sure about that 453, Neosho been playing for first round pick for what seems generations. We spend our marginal cable proceeds on "lookin good" not winning. I vaguely remember when my great grandfather beat Webb City....Yep, we be lookin good.

FYI, Following destiny and right on script, Neosho got spanked again last night. 1-8 on the year....mercifully, season nearly over. At least we can drink beer legally on the square now!!!

East Newton no artificial turf, no college size field house and 2-7. Neosho has nicest facilities in SWMO 1-8. Maybe they need to play with the little dogs.
