A Joplin meth trafficker was sentenced to 15 years in prison during a hearing this afternoon in U. S. District Court.
Travis K. Brown, 53, at his request, will also be allowed to participate in a 500-hour substance abuse in program. When his sentence is completed, he will be on supervised probation for five years.
The sentence was what Brown's attorney had requested in a sentencing memorandum filed October 6. The government, in its sentencing memorandum, asked for a 25-year sentence citing Brown's lengthy criminal history.
As part of the government's plea agreement, a weapons charge and a charge of distributing methamphetamine near a school were dismissed.
A grand jury indicted Brown in November 2021, for crimes that took place June 29 of that year and in August 2020.
