The preliminary examinations for Rocco Joseph and John Joseph II, both of whom are charged with felony leaving the scene of an accident in connection with the August 19, 2023 crash that killed Gary LaTurner, 60, Galena, have been canceled at the request of Cherokee County District Attorney Kurt Benecke.
(Note: John Joseph II, a Joplin dentist, is also charged with contributing to a child's misconduct.)
No date has been set for the rescheduling of the hearings, which were originally scheduled for January 13.
In his motion for a continuance filed today in Cherokee County District Court, Benecke said, "an essential material witness has experienced a medical emergency and is medically unable to testify."
The witness was not named.
Attorneys for the Josephs agreed to the continuance, Benecke said.

I hope these scumbags don’t get away with murder, literally.
Not scumbag
5:40AM - I would probably have a lot harsher Name for both Father and Son - Roco and John Joseph. Anyone that would Hit Someone and Run Away and then even come back to the Scene Again - and still Fail to Call the Police while trying to Figure Out - How to Cover Your Own ASSES - is a POS - Plain and Simple. They have NO VALUES, NO MORALS, AND NO INTEGRITY - They are a Waste of Space! I Hope that Gary LaTurner and his Family receives the Justice they deserve.
It Truly shows - the Level 5:40AM of Empathy you Lack - when you consistently make FLIPPANT Remarks and Comments - NO CLASS ACT!!!
Their actions were totally lacking in morals and empathy. They left a man lying in a ditch, injured and dying. They didn't do anything at all to help him. Their sentence should be severe. I don't care who they are or what their name is, they are despicable people.
The Josephs are no different than - Gloria Trejo, 53, of Noel, on Tuesday (11/19) she was charged with hitting Michael Pruden, a Veteran, then leaving the scene of a fatality crash - Investigators say Trejo admitted to hitting something in the road, and when she went back to see what it was, she saw it was a person, but left the Scene and did not call the Police. They Tracked her down Arrested her, but the McDonald County Prosecutors dropped charges in the deadly hit-and-run crash. Michael Pruden, the Victim and his Family deserve Justice - Maybe the McDonald County Prosecutors could do their Job for Once and do the Right Thing -
