A former Jasper County prisoner's lawsuit against Sheriff Archie Dunn and the Jasper County Sheriff's Department was dismissed after he failed to refile his petition within the 20-day time period ordered by the court.
As noted in the May 29 Turner Report, Steven Coryell was told by Judge Dean Whipple he could not list Dunn as a defendant, but he could refile his lawsuit against other department employees. Coryell claimed he was mistreated by deputies during his 2004 stay in the jail while he was awaiting robbery charges.
Coryell listed Dunn as a defendant, but did not name any of the department employees who allegedly abused him. The case was dismissed without prejudice, meaning Coryell is free to file it again.
