McCaskill to be in Joplin March 2

Area Democratic activists will see a candidate for major office come to Joplin on March 2.
Seth Jackson e-mails that State Auditor Claire McCaskill, who is running for the U. S. Senate post currently held by Jim Talent, will be at the large conference room at the Joplin Public Library 11:30 a.m. March 2.

"Second Thoughts" section of Friday's Columbia Tribune:
State Sen. Gary Nodler, R-Joplin, did not cut off testimony of his Senate
Education Committee on Tuesday, as reported in the Tribune on Feb. 14. Nodler
said he had to conclude the committee meet-ing because the full Senate was
going into session and rules preclude committee meetings during a session." Reporter Terry Ganey had the integrity to correct his error....Does Randy with a front page apology?????

Isn't it interesting that 3 full days after The Columbia Tribune retracted their story, Randy Turner still has the story up and his incorrect headline passing on false information about Nodler. No surprise, most of the negative comments about Nodler for the last year on here have been based on false information.!

Does the story you commented on have anything to do with Nodler or are you just being a cyber-terrorist troll? I am not sure I believe anything Nodler says but if others can confirm my guess is Randy will do so.

It appears that the Gary Nodler supporter has taken the time and effort to paste his (or her) comments about the senator from another posting onto this one. If Gary Nodler plans to have another hearing at which those who are opposed to this action are allowed to have their full say, I will happy to publicize it at that time. Otherwise, I don't read the Tribune comment as a correction, but as a clarification. There is absolutely no doubt that Nodler cut off testimony even if he had a legitimate reason to do so. There is also no doubt that he stacked the front end of the hearing with testimony from supporters who stand to gain from the proposal. Thanks for reading.

Negative comments about Gary Nodler are based on HIS ACTIONS not false information.

The fact is that Nodler extended the hearing beyond the 2 hours allowed in order to allow all interested parties to express themselves. He asked the Majority Floor Leader to delay the start of the session by 10 minutes and extended the hearing beyond the alotted 2 hours to accept statements from all interested parties. This requst was granted by the Floor Leader Charlie Shields and the session was delayed to allow Nodler the extra time! This reaction by Randy proves he is just dishonest and inteintends to remain dishonest. Randy has said several times that when he is wrong he will admit it, but he is wrong here and refuses to admit it. Nodler extended testimoney, the oposite of cutting it off. Why not do some honest reporting ?

By the way...read the quote from the Tribune, Randy's origional source "State Sen. Gary Nodler, R-Joplin, did not cut off testimony of his Senate
Education Committee on Tuesday, as reported in the Tribune on Feb. 14". this is not something from a Nodler supporter but from the Tribune itself. Randy should grow up.

"And Nodler cut off the hearing after two hours, while other people were waiting to testify." The issue is whether others were waiting to testify not whether it was ended at 2 hours.

Seth said...

Did Nodler know when the full Senate was going into session? Scheduling the meeting late in order to avoid testimony is even worse than cutting it off, also more deceptive.

Hi, Seth. You're cool.

As a matter of fact, the Senate education committee meets weekly, usually at 2:00 PM for an hour, the meetings often extend for an additional hour and almost never go beyond 2 hours. Nodler was asked by the leadership of the Senate to move the hearing from 2PM to 8AM because the Project Labor Agreement bill was expected to have extended debate that would have prevented the hearing all together. Nodler did not request the time change. No matter how you try to spin it, Nodler extended the hearing beyond the usual ordinary 1 hour and even beyond the 2 hours alotted. What we have here is dishonest critics, nothing more and nothing new.

The real travesty here and the approach that continues to make Randy unemployable in the news business, is that he put up a headline based on false information later retracted by the newspaper. The Columbia Tribune unambiguously admitted that Nodler did not cut off debate. Their exact quote " State Sen. Gary Nodler, R-Joplin, did not cut off testimony of his Senate Education Committee". Randy, knowing that his comments and headline were false, kept them up. The great thing about this for Nodler is the way his critic's have destroyed their own credibility

What I am amazed about is that one person continues to be that much infatuated with Gary Nodler that he can't get his mind on anything else. This is the same nonsense the guy pulled on the theater meltdown and it didn't work then either. Again, thanks for reading.

Anonymous, if all that is true a correction should be made. Anonymous what is your source for this? Are you Nodler? If so don't be such a weasel and come out into the open.

Anonymous said...

Who really cares, Nodler is going to be history as he comes up for reelection anyway. We have all had it with the self important little jerk.

I don't know if it means anything but I was at the Lincoln Day celebration this year and Gary was there, as usual, but this year was different. In the past they have always had him say a few words etc. but this year they said he was there and that was it. Were they not wanting to draw attention to him or what? This was just an observation on my part, no throwing stones or anything.

Nodler has never spoken at a Newton/Jasper Lincoln Day. He did introduce fellow Senator Peter Kinder once, but has never spoken. This year he led the pledge to the flag, it was the first time he has ever had a spot on the program.

Seth, the source is the Columbia Tribune which retracted the story that Randy put up and has kept up. A fact that hasn't been mentioned is that every witness at that education hearing that made a request to speak was heard, including the office of the Attorney General which spoke against the transaction. No witness that requested to speak was turned down. Randy just doesn't like the facts because they make it clear that his attack on Nodler is without any basis. and to Randy, the fascination is not with Nodler, it's with Randy's fixation on Nodler, Randy should seek professional help!

Thanks Anonymous, it is often difficult for me to verify state and local information. For example, in order to get a look at what party supported a bill at the state level you have to have memorized all members’ party affiliations or go through each name one by one. You almost have to be there. Were you there?

Anonymous said...

Guess that just shows how well I pay attention at the grand old partys big Lincoln Day thing! I just can't get all caught up in politics, I understand it, I just don't like it. I guess I would rather be doing something else so I day dream through all the political stuff. The food was good this year for a change, that at least I paid attention to.

I hate to point out the obvious, but wasn't the original post about Claire McCaskill, not southwest Missouri's favorite movie critic? Just a thought folks, but let's stick to the freakin' subject!!! Now back to your regularly scheduled blog.
