The victim was 1957 Lamar High School graduate Patsy Reed, the daughter of former Lamar R-1 Superintendent Ted Windes:
Those of us in Lamar will better remember her as Patsy Windes. She was the daughter of Ted Windes, long-time superintendent of schools in Lamar. Her stepmother Lenore Windes, long-time home economics teacher at Lamar High School, lives at Truman Health Care Center in Lamar. Reed was a 1957 graduate of Lamar High School and many of her classmates still call Lamar home and are devastated by her senseless and cruel murder.
Reed, 67, lived in Kansas City on 93rd Street. Her husband, Joe Reed, died 13 years ago, and her stepchildren have long since grown up and moved.
According to the Kansas City Star, She had been an artist and worked for an advertising firm until her retirement. Her stepdaughter, Debora Law, said she had lived alone since her husband’s death and that she kept to herself and loved cats.

I called KOAM the next day after the news hit Lamar about Patsy's death, and told them there was a local angle and what it was, and that was the last of it as far as I know. I watched several newscasts and never saw the local angle ever mentioned. I also called the Democrat, but they were already working on it.
