Nixon rips Bush campaign stop for Hulshof

In a fundraising letter issued Tuesday, Democratic gubernatorial candidate Jay Nixon took a dig at President Bush's upcoming visit to campaign for Nixon's opponent, Congressman Kenny Hulshof:

In about 72 hours, President Bush will arrive in Missouri to headline a $25,000-per-couple fundraiser for my opponent, Kenny Hulshof -- in the midst of one of America's most pressing financial crises since the Great Depression.

This presidential visit speaks volumes about where Kenny Hulshof's priorities are and what kind of Governor he intends to be. And it's not a pretty picture.

After a brief fundraising pitch, the message continues:

Kenny Hulshof has voted with President Bush nearly 90 percent of the time, so this Friday, President Bush is returning the favor -- but we're all paying the price:

Corporate tax breaks that have shipped thousands of Missouri jobs overseas. A looming $700 billion taxpayer-funded bailout of Wall Street. A broken health care system with skyrocketing costs for Missouri families. These are the sorry results of the failed Bush-Hulshof policies in Washington, and it's really hitting home here in Missouri.

Let's send George Bush and Kenny Hulshof a message, right now: We can't afford four more years of the same. Missourians demand change!

After another fundraising pitch, the message concludes:

Kenny Hulshof will do anything it takes to rake in five-digit checks from right-wing special interests -- even if it means inviting a President with a 29 percent approval rating to Missouri in the middle of an economic crisis.

Clearly, the national G.O.P. still thinks this is a winnable race, and they'll stop at nothing to achieve victory. They'll even dispatch Air Force One to Missouri to make it happen.

We can't let them win. Missouri can't afford four more years of the same!
