Nixon and his staffers ought to urge police to reconsider. Questions about whether the governor or his staffers allowed concerns for tourism to trump public health aren't going to just go away.
The governor ought to do his best to encourage openness on all fronts before this infection spreads and does irreparable damage -- to his credibility and that of his top staff.

News-Leader editorial: Governor should release tapes
In an editorial in today's edition, the Springfield News-Leader says Gov. Jay Nixon should release surveillance tapes which the newspaper wants as part of its investigation into the e. coli controversy. The administration denied the request this week citing a law created after 9-11 to combat terrorism. Attorney General Chris Koster has said the tapes should be released:
