Member of GateHouse Media Board of Directors resigns

In a letter dated March 7, Richard L. Friedman, a member of GateHouse Media's Board of Directors since 2006, submitted his resignation. Friedman, the president and CEO of Carpenter & Company, Cambridge Mass., a real estate ownership, development, and management firm, was appointed by President Clinton to be chairman of the National Planning Commission

The text of Friedman's resignation letter is printed below:

I have greatly enjoyed my service on the GateHouse Board over the years and have great respect for the job the company has done in the most trying of times.

Unfortunately, for personal reasons, I find it necessary for me to resign from the Board effective immediately.

Thank you for your understanding and best wishes.

In an SEC filing, GateHouse officials indicated there were no company problems that may have caused Friedman's resignation.

GateHouse Media owns The Carthage Press, Neosho Daily News, Pittsburg Morning Sun, and more than 300 newspapers across the United States.
